How Often Should You Really Wash Your Bra?
It is often unknown the real answer to how long you should go in between washes when it comes to bras and lingerie. A lot of people believe it is best to go long stretches in between washes but this is not exactly the case.
Over-wearing your bras and going long stretches in between washing can actually stretch out your bras so it is better to wash them sooner and rotate between different bras. A good bra will maintain its quality and proper shape with consistent washes in between wears.
A lot of bras consist of delicate details and fabric, and often are handmade. Hand-washing your bras and barrettes can be a helpful tip to keep your pieces in top shape for the long run. If machine washing, using a gentle cycle and a lingerie bag can help prolong the life of your bras as well.
The rule generally is that a bra should be washed after every wear or every second wear. This comes down to the fact that your bra is directly in contact with your body. When you think about the perspiration, overall body oils and bacteria that can be transferred onto the fabric of your bra – this really does make sense. If left in the fibres, these oils will slowly begin to break down the fabric of the bra – especially the elastic fibres keeping them together.
You pay a lot for your lingerie – why not treat them well?!
